ISSUE 3: METAMORPHOSIS

Picture

Dear Friends,

Seeing Issue 3 come together reminds me of all the ways we change and grow as people, as artists, and as friends and lovers. I think this change over time reaffirms our identities and allows us to settle into ourselves, into our own bodies. For many of us who grew up somewhat disconnected from ourselves—either because the world told us not to exist in queer and trans bodies, white supremacy told us not to exist in our lineage, assimilation told us not to connect to our ancestry, or society told us to shrink ourselves or disappear—we didn’t listen, and we survived. Metamorphosizing is revelation and reclamation. This issue is a culmination of all those moments of rediscovery, transformation, and reconstruction.

As a Managing Editor of this magazine, I want to extend my gratitude to everyone who shared their work with us and trusted us to handle it with care. I also live in a constant state of gratitude for Cerissa DiValentino, who gives their whole heart to this publication, and for Carla Wilson and Kelly Stohr. An additional thanks to our wonderful editorial board.

To every artist who interacts with us at Giving Room Mag, thank you for letting us celebrate everything you are. We’ll never get tired of it. I hope this issue helps you rediscover and reclaim yourself as you navigate the wonder these poems, prose, and art present.

Sincerely,
Emily M. Goldsmith (she/they)
Managing Editor
